Are all of the animals sleeping?

Sleep is probably a very ordinary activities that we are doing every day, but the scientists are headache to solve the mysteries of this normal operation. No exact reason why we need to sleep and slept much, a normal person spends about 1/3 of our lives sleeping.
Not only sleep studies in humans, the scientists also studied the sleep of many different species and discover more interesting things. The animals do not have to sleep the same, there are species lie down to sleep, hanging upside down on tree species to sleep, standing to sleep. There are even species undergo a very long sleep to survive the winter, that we still call a hibernating species.
There are a lot of animals like bats, they sleep an average of 20 hours per day and only operate at night. Meanwhile, giraffes sleep only 30 minutes per day. And most mammalian species more sleep in the immature stage.
The sleep of the animals still hides many mysteries than humans, some species can alter normal sleeping form in the different conditions. As some migratory birds may sleep less, or even don't sleep when finding a new place. Some other animals also sleep unihemispheric, a form very special sleeping when only half of the brain to rest completely, while the other half remains normal activities such as whales and dolphins.
While higher-order animals should sleep, the lower organisms have no clear concept of sleep because their brain simply does not need to rest, in this species only the declining activity physically as a rest of the body. Using methods of measurement function in fruit flies, they recorded the amount of time they rest by reducing the operational functions of the body. In an interesting experiment they found that the flies are not reflective of rest will be much slower in the search for food.
Fish is one of the creatures not much research about sleep, by the difficult conditions of the study. Scientists believe that some fish species often operate in groups will swim continuously without sleep, while some other fish species alone activity can still sleep at night. But sleep was short and species vulnerable to disruption due to the surrounding environment in the water. Some fish during spawning migration activities also leaves their sleeping habits.
Reptiles are one of the species "dead asleep". Scientists discovered patterns in the brain waves during sleep reptiles are different from mammals, the brain wave activity of them reduced to the maximum. When was sinking into a deep sleep, it is difficult to wake them up, especially the large reptiles like crocodiles, komodo dragon.

Detecting cardinal bird with half-male half-female body

At first we might think cardinal bird may be mutations cause the body was divided up into two different colors. But in fact, this is a case of sexual dimorphism with one side of the body is male and one is female side. This is a phenomenon very rare mutations in the animals, the scientific name is "Gynandromorphism".
Mutations bisexual Gynandromorphism are individual phenomenon with half the body is female and the other half are male, although they still grow and live normally. This particular phenomenon is discharged by a mutation in mitosis.
Normally a cell undergoing mitosis XY chromosomes duplicated to form XXYY. Then it was divided into two new cells XY. However sometimes the division process occurs suddenly makes it into a cell and a cell X XYY, prescribed two different sex. These cells continue the duplication and division makes a body with both chromosomes prescribed different sexes.
This phenomenon is often found in insects, especially butterflies, along with crustaceans such as shrimp and crab. However the discovery of it in a bird species is a rare thing.
The scientists also conducted monitoring special cardinal bird, they discovered that it was not mating with other birds regardless of any gender. Although it is still normal coexistence with the birds of the same species. Basically, both sexes have different effects on the body, so it is difficult for scientists to study what determines lifestyle and mating of these animals with this mutation.
Previously scientists have also discovered many individuals with mutations Gynandromorphism with half the body is male and half are female body:
Butterflies have half the body is male and half are female

Vampire squirrel

Vampire squirrel is newly scientists discovered. The reason this species is named after a vampire because of its blood-sucking characteristics. Along admire rare image of vampire squirrels have bushy tails in wildlife!
Scientists have recently discovered a strange ground squirrels in the forest on Borneo island, Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia.
Accordingly, the squirrel with scientific name  is Rheithrosciurus macrotis, is greater than 2 times the size of most other tree squirrels and have characteristic "bloodsuckers". Not only that, the mammalian species of rodents has a tail "large" - up to 35cm when ruffled feathers.
This feature makes Rheithrosciurus macrotis became one of the species has a tail ratio difference with the world's largest body.
Researchers mammals - Melissa Hawkins of the National Museum of Natural History in Washington said: "The tail of Rheithrosciurus macrotis is greater than 30% compared to their body weight."
There are many animals have big tail, bulkier body as striped squirrels, squirrel glider (capable of flying, gliding through the air as the glider an ingenious way) ...
Almost all species of squirrels use their bushy tails like a parachute, help "landing" on the ground safely. When encountering enemies, their tails erect, which acts as a rudder of the ship, balancing the jump.
Read further, Erik Meijaard - human engaged in research about a local legend story that extremely scary about Rheithrosciurus macrotis.
They mainly eat the giant oak nut and loves hunting - big animals than them. Hunter said, Rheithrosciurus macrotis often parked in low bough and jumped onto the back of deer, bite into its veins and suck blood.
Roland Kays - zoologists - said that this is just a fictional story. However, experts still feel fun with the story and is still learning about this unique species squirrel.

Gar

The gar (also known as the garpike) is an elongated species of fish, generally found in freshwater habitats across North and Central America. Despite their similar appearance, the gar is not to be confused with the marine garfish or needlefish that is a common sight throughout the tropical reefs of south-east Asia.
There are seven different species of gar found on the American continent where they can be found in fresh or brackish water habitats such as lakes and reservoirs, and in the larger slow-moving rivers. The gar is most commonly found in eastern parts of North America, Central America and also on a number of the Caribbean islands.
The gar is a generally quite large species of fish, with some individuals able to reach lengths of 3 meters or more. Although not all gar species are quite so big, they are all generally largefish and therefore dominant predators within their environments.
Gar are generally slow-moving fish and so must rely on the power and strength of their jaws in order to catch their prey. Gar have a long jaw which is filled with sharp, needle-like teeth and can often be seen together in small groups as they try to ambush their prey as one.
The gar is a carnivorous and dominant predator within its environment feeding only on otheranimals in the water. Gar primarily hunt fishinsects and other invertebrates such as crabsalong with eggs and other animals in the water.
Due to its large size and aggressive temperament, the gar has few natural predators within its native environment. Larger animals including crocodilesalligators, large fish species andhumans are the main predators of the gar.
Many gar spawn during the warmer spring months between April and June although they have been known to mate until the autumn weather appears in early October. After mating, the female gar lays an average on 10 sticky eggs on a nearby leaf or branch, where they remain until they hatch. As with many other fish species, the gar parents do not look after their young once they have hatched.
Today, the gar is not considered to be a species that is under threat from extinction although gar populations have been decreasing in specific areas mainly due to over-hunting and pollution in the water.
